Top-lane

Darius

Few things are scarier in League of Legends than watching a fed Darius absolutely obliterate your backline with deadly slashes from Noxian Guillotine. Not only is Darius a great top-lane bully, but he also delivers huge amounts of damage in teamfights thanks to his sustain. However, what truly makes the Hand of Noxus so strong is his ability to build tanky items like Sterak's Gage, Thornmail, Spirit Visage, Black Cleaver and Ravenous Hydra.

These core items give the bloodthirsty Noxian the huge amounts of sustain needed to outrade his opponents in both 1v1 brawls and all out teamfights. A lot of players don't know how to counter Darius' oppressive playstyle so, if you're after a champion that can snowball off a couple of kills, then you can't go wrong with The Hand of Noxus.

Irelia

Irelia is another champion who can lift her allies up and carry them to victory. He's great at duelling thanks to his evolved abilities which allow him to adapt to most situations. This makes Kha'Zix a great pick for solo queue as, sometimes, team comps lack CC and engage tools. Having the ability to choose between healing yourself and slowing your target can create plenty of kill opportunities. While the Void Reaver lacks the overall utility of League of Legends' various tank junglers, his high damage can set the foundation for a lightning fast victory.

Amumu

Amumu's kit is pretty simple and he's a little outdated when compared to League's current wave of champions, but that doesn't stop him from being a staple solo queue pick. If you like the idea of locking down targets and gifting your allies kills with a single Bandage Toss, then the Sad Mummy will undoubtedly put a smile on your face. Amumu is effective across all ranks of play, making him a great choice for both veterans and newbies alike. His ultimate, Curse of the Mummy, entangles all surrounding enemies and can easily give his carries the time they need to unleash the bulk of their damage. As a result, Amumu's utility focused kit makes him useful even when he's behind. Simply land your ultimate to punch your ticket to victory.

Mid-lane

Ahri

Ahri is an incredibly versatile mid-laner who delivers great kill potential with her Charm and mobility from Spirit Rush, while her incredibly safe playstyle makes her a fantastic choice for all levels of play. Being able to initiate fights and then safely disengage with Spirit Rush is huge when you're looking to catch overextended enemy laners. This mischievous fox can effortlessly obliterate champions in team fights thanks to the slow from Glacial Augment and her Charm. Having a champion that can quickly dash between lanes is incredibly important as you'll be able to secure multiple kills, while also aiding those who are struggling to get ahead. There's a reason why the Nine-Tailed Fox continues to be a staple mid-lane pick.

Zed

Zed has a high outplay potential

This slippery assassin has a high ban rate and it's not hard to see why. Zed has the ability to wipe an entire team with deadly precision and he looks great while doing it. This flashy champion is known for his outplay potential and, if you've ever watched any League related clips, then chances are you've seen your share of Zed montages.

While the Master of Shadows can snuff out his opponents in the blink of an eye, he does take a fair amount of skill to play. Switching between his Living Shadow and knowing when to engage foes with Death Mark can be a little tricky, considering how squishy he is. However, if you're willing to put in the time needed to learn the intricacies of his kit, then you'll be racking up those solo queue victories in no time.

Bot-lane

Jinx

You don't always have to get kills to carry your team to victory – in fact, gaining an objective advantage is just as important. Fortunately, Jinx is a champion that can do both. Switcheroo's gatling gun fires off blisteringly fast rounds that shred through enemy champions and objectives, giving you plenty of opportunities to forge an early-game lead. Even if you find yourself behind in lane, Jinx is still incredibly useful since she can simply go split-pushing, forcing the enemy team to decide between teamfighting or losing their Nexus turrets. Meanwhile, Jinx's passive movement speed buff allows you to effortlessly kite around enemy threats. Pick Jinx if you want to see those turrets crumble.

Kai'Sa

Kai'Sa has been wreaking havoc on Summoner's Rift ever since she hit our screens back in patch 8.5. The Daughter of the Void is a great addition to any team looking to get ahead in the early-game. Second Skin works wonders with any supports who have immobilising effects as these mark enemies with Plasma for four seconds, giving Kai'Sa's auto attacks added lethality. With so many CC supports roaming around the Rift at the moment, you'd be irresponsible to not add Kai'Sa to your champion pool. She excels in 1v1 fights thanks to Icathian Rain, while Killer Instinct gives her plenty of kiting opportunities. It's not hard to see why Kai'Sa is such a great solo queue champion.

Support

Lux

Lux is a mid-lane mage but that hasn't stopped her from starting a career as a support. Unlike most supports, The Lady of Luminosity deals an incredible amount of damage and has plenty of stuns and slows to shut down even the most aggressive AD carries. Being able to root multiple enemies with Light Binding can lead to some easy kills, while Prismatic Barrier keeps her ADC from falling when things take a turn for the worse. Combine these abilities with Lux's excellent scaling and high damage, and you've got a recipe for success. She may not have any healing spells, but sometimes shooting a giant laser at your opponents is enough to dissuade further skirmishes. What makes Lux such a great solo queue pick is her ability to carry her laner should they end up feeding.

Pyke

Pyke is another champion who favours proactive plays and can quickly bully a marksman out of lane with his Bone Skewer. To sweeten the deal, Pyke gifts himself and his allies bonus gold whenever he executes an enemy with Death from Below. Not only does this allow Pyke to access his core items much faster, it also gives his ADC increased early-game power. Having a decent gold lead in the early stages of the game is hugely beneficial, especially when you're playing with an AD carry that requires several items to truly shine. Simply land your hook and stun your enemy with Phantom Undertow to send them reeling back to base. Pyke may be a simple champ to play, but that doesn't mean he's not effective.
